PS4 news: PlayStation Plus free games, Last of Us 2 release date leak, State of Play news

PS4 news this week includes plenty of updates to keep PlayStation gamers happy.

The first big PlayStation announcement will be made on Tuesday, September 24, by Sony.

This will be through the State of Play 2019 streaming event, being held by the tech giant on all major platforms.

PS4 gamers will be able to tune in and find out the latest gaming news directly from PlayStation.

And it appears this could contain a massive update for Last of Us 2 fans waiting on release date news. It has already been confirmed that The Last of Us Part 2 will be featured during the streaming event.

Here’s more from Sony, who confirmed in a new post: “We’re preparing a pretty hefty show, weighing in at around 20 minutes and sporting a fresh new look.

“And we’ll have some great news to share with you, including new game reveals, new content from PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios, and a host of other updates. Should be fun.”

This was followed by a statement from the game’s director, Neil Druckmann, who confirmed that The Last of Us 2 would be featured.

“We’ve been silent for too long. It’s time to put an end to that,” a Twitter caption from Druckmann reads.

It seems very likely that we will hear about the official release date for the Naughty Dog project.

And since this was posted, a new leak has reportedly been spotted online, which could contain the release date of The Last of Us 2.

This would mean learning about the launch plans ahead of Sony’s State of Play, although the information being shared should be taken with a big pinch of salt.

According to fans, a European retailer posted a new Last of Us Part 2 product page, complete with a release date.

This reportedly stated that the PS4 exclusive would be released on February 28. 2020, which lines up with an earlier leak.

This posting has since been removed and should be treated as a rumour for now. And luckily, fans won’t have to wait long to find out if this latest leak is real or not.

Another piece of info being shared by Sony won’t be as well received by gamers this week.

While the upcoming State of Play is set to include news regarding forthcoming PS4 games, it won’t feature anything next-gen.

“It probably bears mentioning: Don’t expect any updates related to our next-gen plans in this episode,” a recent statement from Sony explains.

Fans might be a little disappointed by this reveal, but it makes sense when you consider how massive that announcement will be.

After Tuesday, Wednesday, September 25 should feature some more exciting news for PS4 gamers.

Sony look set to announce their new PlayStation Plus free games for October on that day.

There have been no leaks regarding what this new roster might be include, but 2019 has already proven a cracking year for PS Plus games.

It’s expected that Sony will announce the new lineup of free game on the last Wednesday of the month.

And will be followed by them being launched on Tuesday, October 1.
