Aron Eisenberg dead: Nog actor from Star Trek spin-off Deep Space Nine dies aged 50

Aron Eisenberg’s death was confirmed by his wife Malissa Longo, who explained the actor passed away “earlier today”. The actor, who starred as Nog in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, died at the age of 50. His other half wrote in a statement on Facebook: “It is with extreme regret and sadness to announce that my love and best friend, Aron Eisenberg, passed away earlier today. “He was an intelligent, humble, funny, emphatic soul. He sought to live his life with integrity and truth.”

Aron and Malissa tied the knot in December last year, when they eloped together.

She continued: “While our marriage, on paper, was a short one, our hearts had been married for far longer.

“I will be forever thankful for the time we had to love each other.”

Malissa didn’t mention the cause of Aron’s death in the post, but the star had dealt with high-profile health struggles.

According to The Sun, he was reportedly taken to hospital shortly just before his death in a “critical condition”.

In an article on the StarTrek.com website from 2015, Aron opened up about undergoing a second kidney transplant.

He said he was born with one defective kidney and went on dialysis when he was just 14-years-old before his first transplant surgery at the age of 17.

Malissa organised a GoFundMe campaign to raise $10,000 for further surgery for the Star Trek favourite in 2015 and they gained $13,995 from 330 donors.

However, Aron’s new kidney failed making him resume dialysis until his second transplant in December of that year.

In reference to finding a kidney donor that year, the actor said: “I’m so blessed and fortunate, it’s absolutely incredible.”

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was one of several popular spin-off shows from the original series and aired from 1993 to 1999.

Aron played Nog, a mischievous Ferengi with a bulbous head and distinctive ears.

The actor appeared in over 40 episodes of the programme during its seven-season run.

He was also known for starring in the TV series ‘Straight Up’, the movie ‘Amityville: The Evil Escapes’ and films ‘The Horror Show’, ‘Playroom’ and ‘Beverly Hills Brats’.

Fans took to Twitter to pay tribute to Aron following news of his death.

One person shared one of his most famous scenes as Nog alongside the caption: “What a scene – the pivotal moment in Nog’s character arc. Aron Eisenberg gave all his humanity to a fictional alien. It’s eerie.”

Another added: “My heart goes out to the friends & family of #AronEisenberg. He is gone FAR too soon, 50 is too young. I loved him on #StarTrekDS9. He brought depth & layers to Nog & I loved his arc & growth. May you soar among the stars, Aron.”

“Aron Eisenberg, Nog. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. You will be sadly missed. Always be in our hearts in our Star Trek universe,” a third Twitter user wrote.
