PS4 State of Play: When is the next State of Play? Date, time for next PlayStation Direct?

PS4 State of Play viewers will soon see a brand new PlayStation Direct get released by Sony.

It has been awhile since the last State of Play, with the previous PS4 games broadcast taking place in the run-up to E3 in May.

This was only the second State of Play that Sony had ever held, and it had some big PS4 announcements.

The headline act was the re-reveal of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake after over three and a half years in the wilderness.

And it looks like Sony will follow this impressive State of Play with a blockbuster games presentation.

Next week games journalists are heading to a Last of Us 2 media event, where it’s rumoured they’ll get three hours hands-on with Naughty Dog’s latest.

And on the same day that this Last of Us 2 media event is being held Sony will also be broadcasting a brand new State of Play.

The PlayStation makers confirmed their plans for a new State of Play in a post online.

The next State of Play will take place at 9pm UK time on Tuesday September 24 and will be broadcast on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Twitch.

Announcing their plans, Sony said: “Excited to share first details on PlayStation’s next State of Play, which will air Tuesday, 24th September at 9pm BST / 10pm CEST.

“We’re preparing a pretty hefty show, weighing in at around 20 minutes and sporting a fresh new look.

“And we’ll have some great news to share with you, including new game reveals, new content from PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios, and a host of other updates.

“Should be fun!”

They also added that there won’t be any updates regarding Sony’s next-gen plans “in this episode”.

Fans are hoping for an extended look at Last of Us 2 gameplay during next week’s State of Play as well as a possible PS4 release date announcement.

The Last of Us 2 is rumoured to be launching in February 2020, and Sony could confirm this during the upcoming State of Play.

Besides Last of Us 2, PlayStation fans will surely be hoping for more news on Ghost of Tsushima during the next State of Play.

The last time PS4 fans got a new Ghost of Tsushima reveal was back during E3 2018, the same with the Last of Us 2.

And recently Sony has been making fresh comments about Sucker Punch’s latest game.

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida spoke about how he’s been left “overwhelmed” by the graphics of Ghost of Tsushima.

Speaking to Famitsu in a recent issue he said: “When I play it, it’s so beautiful that my hands stop.

“There are many scenes that make Japanese scenery 1.2 times more beautiful.”

While recently Ghost of Tsushima was also listed as making an appearance at TGS 2019, but it was just old trailers that were showcased.

But this re-emergence of Ghost of Tsushima in the news in the past few weeks could point towards Sony gearing up for a major announcement on the PS4 title.

This remains to be seen, but either way surely anticipation will be sky high for the next PS4 State of Play direct.
