Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast host makes surprise ‘clarification’ on ‘sniggering’ accusation

The presenter is an avid sports fan and often is seen playing a round or two of golf. He also loves sharing updates of his life with his loyal army of followers. On Wednesday, the host helped a team of four celebrities win this year’s BMW PGA pro-am tournament.

He was joined on his team by professional golfer Tyrrell Hatton, One Direction’s Niall Horan and Olympic gold winning hockey player Sam Quek.

But after Sam posted a video showing her first tee shot at the tournament, Dan made his clarification.

The original clip from Sam was posted alongside the caption: “This was my first shot of the day at the #BMWPGA yesterday.

“My most nervous moment in sport, ever!

“Hundreds/thousands watching & to make things worse, @TyrrellHatton , @NiallOfficial & @mrdanwalker had all put theirs all within 3ft of the flag before me.

“Nightmare!!!”

In the video Dan is seen smiling with Niall.

But the BBC Breakfast star added: “Just to clarify… that was not a snigger from me or @NiallOfficial.

“@SamanthaQuek had 8 birdies all in and chipped in at the last to seal the win #ItsNotHowYouStartItsHowYouFinish.”

The win comes after Dan revealed he met a 90s icon in a “fan boy” moment at the pre-tournament event on Saturday night.

The event was held at Wentworth and was raising money for charity.

But while at the after show, which saw the likes of Sir Rod Stewart entertain guests, Dan revealed a moment that capped his night.

He wrote on Twitter: “At Wentworth raising money for The Prostate Project and the Royal Surrey County Hospital Charity alongside the European Tour Foundation.

“Sir Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones are all performing on the weekend before the BMW PGA but more importantly Chesney Hawkes is in the building.

“#FanBoy.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
