Alison King: Coronation Street’s Carla snubs Strictly as ex co-star prepares for routine

Alison King has opened up about whether she would take part in Strictly Come Dancing, when asked about ex Coronation Street colleague Catherine Tyldesley. The latter Eva Price star, who left the ITV soap last year, will take to the dance floor tomorrow night for her first dance with professional Aljaž Škorjanec, 29. However, fans won’t be seeing the Carla Connor actress jiving anytime soon as she’s not a fan of the BBC show. Speaking to the latest issue of OK! Magazine, the 46-year-old opened up about her engagement to David Stuckley as well as future television plans.

When asked if she would ever do Strictly like Catherine, 36, Alison said she wasn’t keen on the idea.

She commented: “I love all the costumes and I used to want to be a dancer as a kid, but Strictly isn’t my cup of tea.

“Cath will be brilliant! It’s such a feat to learn all those different dances.”

Alison went on to discuss her career plans after taking a break from Corrie in 2016, before returning at the end of the following year.

On if she is planning to stay for the foreseeable future, the star stated: “While I’m enjoying it I’ll stick around, but I also want to get my qualifications in massage and reiki.”

Her last couple of years in the long-running drama have been memorable, with her being named Best Soap Actress at the recent TV Choice Awards 2019.

However, Alison will be sad to see her pal and co-star Kym Marsh depart, after portraying Michelle Connor since 2006.

She added: “We share a dressing room and I’ll miss her so much. But everybody has to spread their wings and she supported me when I did it, so I’ll support her.

“I know she’s going to have a great time. She’s so versatile that there’s so much she’s going to do. She’s flourishing as a grandma. We’ll still see each other.”

It comes just days after the 43-year-old sparked speculation she might sign up for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

Writing in her latest column for the same publication, Kym said: “I’d be terrible! I wouldn’t like the bugs or the sleep deprivation.

“I’d never jump out of a helicopter, my camp mates would probably starve because I’d fail to win any stars… never say never.”

Meanwhile, Alison is busy planning a wedding after her boyfriend popped the question a few days after their one-year anniversary.

However, stormy weather threatened the big moment as they holidayed in Portugal with friends.

The couple have already found their venue, which is “nice and rustic”, and will be perfect for a “nice party”.
