Piers Morgan hits back at ‘ludicrous’ campaign against Laura Kuenssberg: ‘Leave her alone’

Piers Morgan, 54, spoke out about the debate surrounding Laura Kuenssberg, 43, and described the campaign calling for the BBC News journalist to get the sack as “ludicrous”. The reporter faced backlash when she revealed Omar Salem, who confronted Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 55, at a hospital, is a Labour activist while linking to one of his posts about the incident. Omar, who is the father of a sick child, told the politician: “There are not enough doctors, there are not enough nurses. “The NHS is being destroyed, and now you come here for a press opportunity.”

Addressing the outrage in response to Laura’s post on the micro-blogging site, Piers wrote in view of his 6.8 million followers: “This ludicrous #sacklaurakuenssberg campaign just about sums up the pathetic, fact-devoid, hysterical tribalism that now infests political debate.

“You can’t get more impartial, or superbly professional, than @bbclaurak – so leave her alone, you ignorant bug-eyed bullies.”

Fans took to the comments section of the Good Morning Britain host’s post to share their views.

Some disagreed with Piers’ statement, as one person suggested: “She literally tagged him on Twitter to be bullied! Tories always stick together.”

Another added: “Of course LK shouldn’t be sacked. But it was disappointing that she and other journalists didn’t ask themselves if Boris’ critic had a political axe to grind before splashing with his diatribe.”(sic)

However, a third Twitter user sided with Piers, writing: “So true – I’m for leave and initially I assumed she was remain biased but I’ve watched her many times asking equally tough questions to both sides. Over time she’s proved to be one of the most impartial I’ve seen.”

“The questions were no doubt pre-arranged and pre-approved but it’s still a good interview.

“In parts it’s like one of those proper sports documentaries ESPN used to make.”

After seeing the tweet, Piers clarified that the Juventus star didn’t ask to approve questions in advance.

He responded: “What? Don’t be ridiculous! He neither asked for advance questions, nor got any.

“I would never do that… he said I could ask anything I wanted.”

Cristiano Ronaldo Meets Piers Morgan is now available on ITV Hub.
