UPDATE: The Modern Warfare beta is one step closer to becoming a reality, as pre-loading goes live.

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare beta weighs in at a hefty 37GB, so it’s worth downloading ahead of the release date.

ORIGINAL: Call of Duty fans are counting down to the start of the Modern Warfare beta on Xbox One and PC.

After making its debut as a timed exclusive on PS4 last week, the Modern Warfare beta is finally extended to other platforms.

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare beta has a September 19 release date on Xbox One, PC and PS4.

Similar to last week’s exclusive PS4 beta, the latest multiplayer test session has a 6pm BST start time for fans living in the UK.

To ensure you don’t miss a second of the action, the Call of Duty Modern Warfare beta can be pre-loaded ahead of launch. Pre-loading will be available from 6pm UK time on September 18.

The good news is that the PlayStation beta is available to all PS4 owners, with or without a pre-order.

Anybody who played last week’s PS4 beta can jump into the action as soon as it goes live, although an update is required.

Fans wishing to play the beta from September 19 on Xbox One and PC will need to pre-order the game first.

To get early access to the Call of Duty beta on September 19, Xbox One owners can pre-order Modern Warfare from the Xbox Store, or by visiting retailers such as Amazon and GAME.

Anybody who pre-orders a digital version of Call of Duty will automatically gain access to the beta. If you’ve pre-ordered a physical copy of the game, you should receive an early access code.

“In most cases, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Early Access Beta code will be printed on the retail receipt or sent to you via email on an online receipt,” Activision confirms. “If you didn’t receive a Beta code or can’t locate it, please contact your retailer.”

Once you’ve received your code, you can redeem it by heading over to the Call of Duty website.

The Modern Warfare beta continues at 2am UK time on September 21, where it’s open to Xbox One and PC owners without a pre-order.

Xbox One owners will need an active Xbox Gold account to access the game, but not a pre-order code.

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare beta will contain various maps, playlists and surprises.

“Expect an epic and ever-changing series of Maps, Playlists, and other content drops throughout the Beta Test Weekends, with surprises and a great deal of content to access,” reads a beta post on the PlayStation Store.

Fans will be able to try out everything from the 64-person Ground War mode, to the smaller, faster Gun Fight mode.

It even supports cross-platform multiplayer, meaning you can play against friends on different systems.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare has an October 25 release date on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
