Arsenal staff are not convinced Unai Emery strategy works as second concern emerges

Arsenal staff are reportedly not convinced Unai Emery’s strategy of playing the ball out from the back works amid their mixed star to the Premier League season.

The Gunners went into the campaign confident of improvement from last term after bringing in Nicolas Pepe, Dani Ceballos and David Luiz back in the summer.

Arsenal, however, have failed to kick on. Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Watford was a blow, coming after a draw against Tottenham and defeat to Liverpool.

And the Daily Mail claim Arsenal staff are not convinced Emery’s tactic of playing the ball out from the back works.

On Sunday, against Watford, Sokratis Papastathopoulos suffered.

The Greece international attempted to pass the ball from inside his own box but ended up giving the ball to Tom Cleverley.

Cleverley then converted for Watford, paving the way for their dramatic comeback.

And the report claims Arsenal staff also have concerns over the shape of the team.

They are reportedly worried that Arsenal are not compact enough during matches, therefore making it easier for the opposition to break them down.

Whether Emery sticks to his tactics or opts to change things up remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Sokratis issues an apology to Arsenal supporters for his mistake against Watford.

And he fronted up, admitting he was to blame for the draw at Vicarage Road.

“I think that I cost the game for the team,” the Greece international said.

“It was my mistake for something simple that I don’t have to do.

“I think this was the problem why we lose the three points. This is all about our responsibility and we have to do better.

“It was my mistake and today without my mistake, we would take the three points.

“I don’t want to speak about others. Today it was my mistake and this cost the game. Nothing else.

“The other guys tried their best. I don’t have to do this mistake.”

Arsenal are next in action against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday (8pm).

The Gunners made the final of the competition back in May but were beaten 4-1 by Chelsea in Baku.
