Alison King: ‘You’re kidding!’ Coronation Street’s Carla Connor on proposal going wrong

Alison King, 46, and her beau David Stuckley, 36, spoke candidly about the moment the pair got engaged with the latter admitting it nearly went wrong. The couple travelled to Portugal to celebrate their one-year anniversary and took a romantic sunset cruise earlier this year. But David revealed he decided against popping the question at the time because he was worried the ring may fall into the sea. Speaking to OK! magazine, he said: “The crew were in on the surprise, so they said; ‘We’re not going to cancel, don’t worry!’

“We sailed out of the marina and the waves were huge!”

He continued: “I wouldn’t of dared to hold the ring in case it flew out of my hands. So I asked them to turn the boat back and they took us into the marina, where there were no people around.”

His shocking revelation comes after the Coronation Street star admitted she had an “inkling” her beau would propose to her on the trip.

Alison told the publication: “We went to Portugal with friends and David had booked us a sunset cruise on our own.

“I had an inkling he’d propose, so I bought him a Rolex as an engagement present, and I took it along just in case he asked!”

She continued: “But as we drove towards the port at Albufeira, there were black clouds over the sea.

“The taxi driver was like,’You’re going on a boat? You’re kidding right?’”

Alison and David began dating after they were set up by her personal trainer.

She began dating David following the split from her ex-fiance Adam Huckett in 2012.

The pair were in a relationship for five years and were engaged for one year.

Alison and Adam share 10-year-old daughter Daisy Mae Huckett.

Speaking about her 10-year age gap with David, the ITV favourite revealed she has always dated “younger guys”.

Alison divulged: “I asked how old he was but I’ve always gone for younger guys. What was beautiful was that he already has a family.

“He’s already very mature in his thinking and he said he didn’t want to be with someone who didn’t have children because they wouldn’t get it.”

She continued: “We both had the same view, that we came as a package with our children; you fall in love with me, you fall in love with my children and we did.”

David is a father to two young sons from a previous relationship.
