Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder confirmed by Frank Warren but depends on one thing

Tyson Fury’s rematch against Deontay Wilder has been confirmed for next year by promoter Frank Warren.

The fight has been in the pipeline since the juggernauts fought to an entertaining draw in December, but an injury could derail plans.

Fury came through his win over Otto Wallin with two significant cuts above his right eye, which could push the date of the fight to mid 2020.

The Gypsy King required a total of 47 stitches, after he revealed that the fight could take place on February 22.

Warren told talkSPORT: “It’s done, the fight is made.

“The fight will go on next year. Obviously the date will now be subject to Tyson’s eye being healed and him being 100 per cent.

“If it’s not then I wouldn’t let it happen.

“There’s no way we’re going to let him go in the ring if he’s not 100 per cent, he’s got to be 100 per cent in a fight like that.”

Wilder is set to fight Luis Ortiz for a second time before he takes on Fury again, and Warren is almost certain that the latter bout will take place in the United States.

He continued: “Wilder is the biggest-punching heavyweight in the last 20 years, we all saw what happened last time and Tyson has got to be really on the money before we allow that fight to take place.

“But the fight is signed for, it’s done. Both fighters want it and everybody wants it to happen. It’s now just going to be a waiting game to see how the cut heals.

“Plus, Wilder will have a fight of his own against Luis Ortiz, and he’s got to come through his fight.

“I always say, these guys are potential banana skins. One punch can change everything, as we saw with AJ [Anthony Joshua against Andy Ruiz] and with Tyson. One punch changed the fight for Tyson, only it wasn’t a knock out, it was a bad cut that was caused.

“Yeah, I would say 99.999 per cent it will be there [in the US].

“That’s because of the volume of the American audience, the fact it’ll be pay per view and that’s where the guys generate the most income.

“He’s only doing what every single Brit who has reached this level has done in the past.”
