Spider-Man: Sony decision to RUIN Marvel character as Russos speak on ‘tragic mistake’?

Spider-Man fans were recently rocked by the news that the Marvel character wouldn’t be appearing in any future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies after Sony decided to split the iconic superhero from the franchise and plough forward with their own movies about the web-slinging teenager. The Russo brothers are still revelling in the aftermath of the Avengers double whammy Infinity War and Endgame, the latter of which has overtaken Avatar to become the highest-grossing film of all time. The latest Spider-Man actor Tom Holland played Peter Parker in both films as well as standalone movies Homecoming and Far From Home, but it seems those films have the possibility to be his last following the news Sony has decided to remove the character from the MCU. Holland also appeared in Captain America: Civil War, but now the companies have split the two worlds, there are questions surrounding how Peter Parker will fare in the future, and Anthony Russo has firm views on the subject.

In the latest interview while discussing his new war epic, Joe told The Toronto Sun: “I will say, stepping back and trying to be objective as possible…

“I think it’s a tragic mistake on Sony’s part to think that they can replicate Kevin [Feige]’s penchant for telling incredible stories and the amazing success he has had over the years.

“I think it’s a big mistake.”

“It was so difficult to get him into Civil War,” Anthony went on. “It was an extremely long and hard process.

“But we were driven to help make it happen. But Kevin Feige pulled it off, somehow.

“Disney and all the good people at Sony found a way to make it work and it lasted a few films.

“We had a wonderful experience with that and I think audiences really appreciated that marriage,” the director continued. “But we know how hard that marriage was to make in the first place, so the fact that the marriage fell apart isn’t really that surprising to me and Joe.”

Tom Holland is set to reprise his role in future Sony projects.

This could even see the actor in crossover films with Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s Morris.

In the aftermath of the news, the actor gushed about his experience with the MCU to Entertainment Weekly.

“It’s been five amazing years,” he said. “I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds?

“But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life.

“It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it.

“The future for Spider-Man will be different,” the star added. “But it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

Fans have yet to see new Spider-Man plans in the pipeline.

Will they live up to the success of the Marvel collaborations?
