The 34-year-old was with a colleague for a Safe Roads service when he was attacked from behind in Piazzale Duca D’Aosta, in front of Milan’s central station, at 11am local time today. The attacker, whose nationality has not been revealed, stabbed the soldier with a pair of scissors. He then tried to escape towards the Via Vittor Pisani, Milano Today reported.
But he was quickly caught and arrested by the police officers.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, although he has suffered a deep wound to his neck.
Police are investigating whether the incident was terrorism-related.
It is not the first time police have been attacked and stabbed at Milan Central Station.
Ismail Tommaso Hosni attacked two soldiers and a railway police officer with a knife after they asked for his documents on May 18, 2017.
He was sentenced to seven years.

The FCO stated: “There are isolated cases of domestic terrorism.
“Attacks carried out by the extreme left-wing and secessionist groups have generally been aimed at official Italian targets, mainly in the form of small bombs and incendiary devices.
“The Italian authorities have made a number of arrests of individuals with links to Daesh and other extremist groups.”
