Melania Trump: FLOTUS mocked after revealing festive White House plans – in September

The First Lady came under the spotlight as she shared the news of her fore-planning amid a backdrop of high pressure current affairs involving her husband President Donald Trump. The White House announced in August Melania had already begun planning for the upcoming holiday season. The announcement came as Trump was on holiday last month discussing a number of high-profile things on social media — a trade war with China, protests and police clashes in Hong Kong and complaining about The New York Times.

A statement from Melania’s office said: “First Lady Melania Trump and President Donald J. Trump will once again open the People’s House up to the public for the traditional Christmas decorating of the White House.”

The statement also provided an application for volunteers who are looking to help decorate the White House.

Volunteers can also apply to serve as greeters and musicians who’d like the chance to perform at the White House.

This is not the first time Melania has put focus on Christmas during noteworthy current events.

She shared four pictures on Twitter of her Christmas planning in July, as Robert Mueller testified before congress about his investigation into Trump’s ties to Russia.

Trump raised eyebrows by sharing the tweet just as Mr Mueller was defending his team’s objectivity.

Writing on Twitter, Melania said: “I’m looking forward to sharing our final vision for this unique tradition in the coming months.”

Twitter users were quick to ridicule the timing of the First Lady’s Tweet.

“In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood.”

This could be the reason Melania has started planning the White House’s Christmas so early.

It could be helping her with the stress of the current events her husband is embroiled with.

Last Christmas Melania received waves of criticism after decorating the White House with all-red Christmas trees.

The unusual display prompted mocking comparisons to everything from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ to ‘The Shining’.

The White House explained the red motif in a statement, saying the hue represented stripes found in the presidential seal designed by the Founding Fathers.

Melania described the “American Treasures” – themed scene as “fantastic” and “beautiful”.

The First Lady added she recognised people’s tastes vary.

She said: “I think they look fantastic. I hope everybody will come over and visit it. In real life, they look even more beautiful.

“You are all welcome to visit the White House, the people’s house.”
