The Affair season 5, episode 5 promo: What will happen next?

Season five of The Affair could see Noah Solloway (played by Dominic West) and his ex-wife Helen Butler (Maura Tierney) reconciling. The couple’s happy marriage was destroyed by Noah’s infidelity with Alison Bailey (Ruth Wilson) and has never quite recovered since. While both parties appeared to have moved on from their acrimonious divorce for the sake of their children, feelings still linger and wounds are raw.

What will happen in The Affair season 5, episode 5?

Episode five of The Affair will be airing this Sunday (September 22) on Showtime in the US.

Sky Atlantic will be airing the show a couple of days later in the UK on Tuesday, September 24 at 9pm.

Showtime has released a short synopsis, which teases: “Sierra (Emily Browning) struggles to balance motherhood with her burgeoning acting career.

“Sierra’s mother visits uninvited. Helen works her first design gig and begins to focus on herself.”

The US network has also released a short promo of what to expect which starts with Helen having a makeover as she’s told: “This is basically your debut.”

“As what?” she asks, leading her friend to reply: “Sasha Mann’s girlfriend.”

The teaser then cuts to Helen at an event looking elegant in a white gown as she finds a new lease of life.

But it’s not all parties and glamour for Helen after Sierra turns up on her doorstep and asks if she’ll mind her baby.

“Could you watch him for me? I’m kinda desperate,” jobbing actress Sierra says.

However, she’s far from impressed and tells Sierra: “You brought a child into this world, figure it out.”

Helen appears to be taking back control given the strange dynamic she has with Sierra. Both women slept with Vik Ullah (Omar Metwally) with Sierra falling pregnant and Helen still grieving him despite it.

This relationship is likely to be explored further as Helen grows and develops as a character.

Sierra is with her mother who suddenly turns up out of the blue and questions her friendship with Helen.

“She’s like a second mother to me,” Sierra tells despite the neighbours falling out over childcare.

The trailer also features Noah, who is hoping to make another go of it with Helen, telling her: “I deserve a second chance.”

Helen shakes her head, telling him: “You had a second chance.” She then delivers the brutal blow: “I don’t love you anymore.”

As the promo reaches a climax, a car veers out of control and crashes. Is Noah behind the wheel and has he done this in a moment of self-loathing and self-destruction?

The trailer doesn’t feature Joanie Lockhart (Anna Paquin), suggesting she could have a smaller role to play.

The Affair airs on Showtime in the US on Sundays and on Sky Atlantic in the UK on Tuesdays at 9pm
