Aston Villa ace Anwar El Ghazi tries to headbutt team-mate Tyrone Mings in West Ham clash

Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghai tried to headbutt team-mate Tyrone Mings during the Villans Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The pair were caught arguing about their defensive duties during the match, as they cleared their lines for a West Ham corner.

Mines stormed over to the Dutchman shouting, while El Ghazi responded aggressively.

He headbutted Mings during the clash, and the duo were ushered away by their team-mates.

VAR had to check whether there should be a red card involved, but decided that it wasn’t a sending off offence.

Manager Dean Smith and John Terry looked unimpressed on the side-line throughout the argument.

But, ultimately both players carried out with their defensive duties and cleared the subsequent corner.

The incident happened mid-way through the first-half, after a match sparse of goal-mouth action.

More to follow…

The clash could draw watered-down comparisons to a high-profile argument between Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer in 2005.

The Newcastle duo began arguing on the pitch, before launching into a full on brawl.

Both players were sent off during the tie, and were forced to issue an apology after the match.

Sebastian Haller had the best chance of the half, almost giving West Ham the lead shortly before the break. He narrowly headed wide from a Felipe Anderson cross.

Meanwhile, John McGinn forced Lukasz Fabianski into action with a fine strike from the edge of the box.

The Hammers could leapfrog a host of teams if they were to pick up three points at Villa Park, including Manchester United and Arsenal.

Villa could move up to 13th if they were to snatch a win, taking them out of the relegation zone and ahead of fellow recently-promoted teams, Norwich City and Sheffield United.
