Arsenal boss Unai Emery and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp are similar operators, according to ex-Reds striker Robbie Fowler.
Emery has yet to come out on top during the pair’s three meetings in the Premier League since the Spaniard became Arsenal boss.
But back in 2016, Emery’s Sevilla ousted Liverpool and Klopp in the Europa League final, perhaps their biggest clash to date.
Emery has been criticised for some of his approaches to Arsenal’s games since he took over in the summer of 2018.
But Liverpool legend believes Emery is more similar in his approach to management to Klopp than many believe.
“I think he’s a coach who likes to create a different plan for each team he faces, and that can be a learning process for some players,” he told The Mirror.
“Yet Jurgen Klopp does that too. Watch Liverpool closely, and they tweak their tactics each game, to exploit weakness in the opposition.
“I remember when, as Sevilla boss, Emery took Klopp’s side apart in the second half of the 2016 Europa League final, with a brilliant tweak of his tactics.
“Emery is a manager who can cope with egos and get the best from players.”
Fowler also commended Emery because of the fact he’s managed all over Europe and competed with some of the best managers.
“He’s also managed some big clubs, been head-hunted by some of the biggest. He has quality – but he is also in a league where there are some of the best managers in the world,” he said.
“In fact, I look at the likes of Barca, Bayern and even Real Madrid, and I wonder if their coaches are not quite at the level of the likes of Guardiola, Klopp, and Pochettino at the moment.
“So I’d rather wait and see what Emery can do at Arsenal, rather than jump on this bandwagon which is already killing him with the season only four games old.”
Arsenal and Liverpool’s first clash this season ended in a 3-1 victory for the latter side, who have won all of their games in the Premier League this season.
