iOS 13 release this week – Five vital things every Apple iPhone owner should know

Apple’s iOS 13 was first announced back in June at the US technology firm’s WWDC developers conference.

This new software includes a swathe of blockbuster features and upgrades which will help to enhance your iPhone with Dark Mode likely to be the most popular addition.

This refreshed colour scheme will transform the onscreen appearance with almost of all Apple’s most popular applications getting compatibility with this upgrade.

There’s plenty of other thrilling new features arriving on your device plus a boost to its performance is also expected and here’s everything you need to know about this vital upgrade.

WHEN WILL iOS 13 BE RELEASED?

Apple confirmed last week that it will begin pushing out iOS 13 to devices on Thursday, September 19.

This news was revealed during the firm’s iPhone 11 keynote with it also revealed that it will be free to all compatible iPhones.

WHEN TIME WILL iOS 13 BE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD?

There’s no official release time from Apple but expect to see it arrive on your phone from around 6pm BST.

This is usually when Apple pushes out this upgrade so it’s worth being connected to Wi-Fi if you want to be one of the first to receive it.

WHAT DEVICES ARE COMPATIBLE?

Almost all modern iPhones will be able to download iOS 13 but some fans may face a disappointing evening.

iOS 13 won’t be available on devices including the iPhone 6 with Apple not supporting this older device any longer.

Here’s a full list of iPhones that will be able to download and use iOS 13.

iPhone 11 • iPhone 11 Pro • iPhone 11 Pro Max • iPhone XS • iPhone XS Max • iPhone XR • iPhone X • iPhone 8 • iPhone 8 Plus • iPhone 7 • iPhone 7 Plus • iPhone 6S • iPhone 6S Plus • iPhone SE • iPod Touch (seventh generation).

HOW CAN I DOWNLOAD IT?

Once Apple has confirmed that iOS 13 is released you simply need to head to Settings > General > Software Update.

Expect your iPhone to be out of action for a short while as these updates can take a few minutes to download and install.

WHAT’S NEW?

Along with Dark Mode, there’s plenty of other new features coming to your iPhone.

These include an improved photos app and a new typing experience via QuickPaths.

This new feature brings easy one-hand typing to the iOS keyboard by continuously swiping through the letters of a word.

Everything should be a little faster once this update is installed with Apple boasting that apps will load at a more rapid rate and its Face Unlock security should be even more seamless.

“iOS 13 brings new capabilities to the apps you use every day, with rich updates to Photos and Maps, and privacy-protecting features like Sign In with Apple, all while delivering faster performance,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.

“We’re excited for customers to experience what’s coming to iPhone this fall and can’t wait for them to see how great everything looks in Dark Mode.”
