Liverpool and Newcastle, two of the biggest clubs in the England, with two of the most passionate fanbases in the Premier League, are set to play each other on Saturday at Anfield.

Both sides have have enjoyed some big moments against each other across 47 meetings in the Premier League since its inception in 1992.

And in those 27 years, there have been 13 stars to don both the famous black and white threads, as well as Liverpool’s deep red kit.

But Express Sport have decided to round up seven of the best, worst and least memorable, each with their own rank and rating.

1 – Georginio Wijnaldum

The Dutchman spent just one season at St James’ Park after transferring from PSV in 2015. During his year on Tyneside, however, he notched 11 Premier League goals in 38 appearances, including four in one game against Norwich in a 6-2 win.

After impressing Liverpool scouts, he joined the Reds in 2016 for £23million and despite a relatively slow start, he cemented his place in the team fairly quickly and has since become an integral member of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Last season, he led the comeback in Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final with Barcelona, scoring twice in a 4-0 win at Anfield, having lost 3-0 at the Nou Camp in the first leg.

2 – James Milner

What more is there to say about Mr Premier League? Milner has not only played for Liverpool and Newcastle in England’s top flight, but also Leeds, Aston Villa and Manchester City.

At Newcastle, where he made 94 appearances, Milner forged himself into one of the most reliably astute players any team could wish for. His versatility earnt him a move to Manchester City – after spending some time with Aston Villa – where he won the Premier League twice at the Eithad.

In 2015, he went to Liverpool and has since become one of the most important players, positioning himself in midfield, out wide and in a full-back role. Last season he won the Champions League and and this term will be hoping to end the Reds’ 30-year-Premier League trophy drought.

3 – Michael Owen

The teenage sensation had it all at the beginning of his career. Owen had been at Liverpool since his youth days, and quickly became one of the quickest and most lethal goal-scorers in the world – something he proved against Arsenal in the FA Cup final in 2001 when he notched twice in a 2-1 victory.

Owen also proved himself for England and became the Three Lions fifth-top scorer of all time, announcing himself on the world stage against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup in France. A devastating knee injury at the same tournament eight years later, however, saw his career dip massively.

Before the injury, he moved to Real Madrid where it failed to work out before his £16m move to Newcastle – a disaster for all involved. Injuries, a lack of passion for the club, and relegation saw his time in the north east come to an end in 2009 after four average seasons.

4 — Andy Carroll

Carroll became Newcastle’s new boy-wonder in the 2009/10 season, where the Magpies played in the Championship following relegation the previous term.

After scoring 19 times in England’s second-tier, he proved to be a solid Premier League player too, scoring on 11 occasions in 20 appearances in six months, before his big move to Liverpool in January 2011.

The Reds made Carroll their most expensive signing ever at the time, splashing out £35million on the striker. But after just 11 goals in 58 appearances, he was sold to West Ham before re-joining boyhood club Newcastle this past summer, where he’s yet to make an appearance because of injury.

5 – Craig Bellamy

Of course Bellamy played for both Liverpool and Newcastle, he just about played for everyone else in the Premier League. His career at St James’ Park got underway in 2001, scoring 28 league goals in his four seasons with he club.

The Welshman then had a spell at Blackburn before making a £6m move to Liverpool. His best moment in Reds shirt came against Barcelona at the Nou Camp, where ehe scored to make it 1-1 in the Champions League last 16 tie.

Overall, he scored seven league goals for Liverpool during his sole season there, before moving on to West Ham, Manchester City and then Liverpool again in 2011, where he scored a further six goals in the league.

6 – Jonjo Shelvey

Shelvey began his career at Charlton before moving to Liverpool in 2010, spending three years at Anfield where he showed himself to be a promising player. One of his two league goals for the club came against Chelsea in a 4-1 win in 2012.

But a year later, Shelvey moved on to Swansea and then Newcastle in 2016, where, at times, he’s proved to be an important player for the Magpies. His questionable disciplinary record, though, has let him down.

His performances for Liverpool and Newcastle has learnt him six England caps, and he’s scored once already this season for Steve Bruce’s side against Norwich in a 3-1 loss.

7 – Jose Enrique

Enrique, a trusty left-back, became a hero on Tyneside for Newcastle during four years with the club from 2007 to 2011. He made 119 appearances and scored once, having joined from Villarreal in Spain.

His positive performances for Newcastle earned him a move to Liverpool, where he spent five years. He played 25 times in the Premier League in his first season, but his defensive performances were not at the standard he produced at Newcastle.

His form rapidly declined in the following seasons and in his last three years with the Reds, he played just 12 times in the Premier League, before being sold to Real Zaragoza in 2016.
