O2 rivals EE and Three Mobile with the ultimate smartphone upgrade

There was a time when it was just Three Mobile who offered unlimited data but that’s all changed.

Vodafone announced its new unlimited deals earlier this year and EE also recently joined this all-you-can-eat revolution.

Now it’s the turn of O2 to reveal a major upgrade with customers able to grab fully unlimited data plans from today.

This means you should be able to stream and download as much as you like without fear of being charged anything extra to stay online.

O2 says this new option will start from just £33 per month for an 18-month SIM-only plan.

Along with SIM plans, there’s also the ability to get unlimited data on new smartphone contracts.

Speaking about the unlimited data plans, Nina Bibby, Chief Marketing Officer, O2, said: “We’re excited to be unveiling our Unlimited Data plans today. Now there’s no limit to what you can do on O2. As the customer champion, O2’s mobile plans have always been designed to put customers in control, and with the option of unlimited data on our award winning network, we are now providing our customers with the ultimate choice.”

It worth noting that this unlimited data also includes 5G-ready handsets with O2’s superfast signal being switched on next month.

The UK network has just confirmed that it will switch on these superfast speeds in October with six areas the first to get access to a better connection.

At launch, O2’s 5G service will be live in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, London and Slough.

This will then be followed by more areas throughout 2019 and into next year.

O2 says it intelligence-led rollout strategy has been driven by data and insight that identifies where customers will benefit from 5G the most.

This means users of the network are most likely to see improvements in key locations including train stations, important business areas and entertainment and sports venues including The O2 and Twickenham Stadium.

“5G is going to be a game changer for our country. Whether it’s for people or businesses, the power of this next-generation network is going to unlock a world of possibilities for our economy and society,” said Mark Evans, CEO, Telefónica UK.
