Man Utd player ratings vs Leicester: McTominay superb, Pereira shines but midfielder poor

Manchester United player ratings vs Leicester City – Premier League

GK: David de Gea – 6

Good early save from James Maddison and then tipped a Ben Chilwell strike over the bar.

Couple of nervy moments but the clean sheet will have done him the world of good.

RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7

Overcame a knock to make the starting XI and was solid against a bright Leicester attack, dominating his one-on-one duels.

CB: Victor Lindelof – 4

Caught out early on by a long-ball from Evans and never really looked comfortable, struggling to keep tabs on Maddison.

CB: Harry Maguire – 7

Attracted plenty of attention going up against his former side and was given a tough examination by Jamie Vardy but just about came through unscathed.

Beaten by the veteran striker on one occasion but dominated in the air and seemed to relish the challenge presented by the Foxes frontline.

LB: Ashley Young – 7

Great challenge denied Demerai Gray while his delivery was much better than in recent weeks.

Combined well with Daniel James and never stopped working for his side.

CM: Scott McTominay – 9

A brilliant display from the Scot, who never let the Leicester midfield settle.

Looked after the ball superbly and dictated the tempo while the youngster demonstrated excellent defensive responsibilities to maintain his concentration throughout.

CM: Nemanja Matic – 3

An unpopular selection from Solskjaer and Matic did little to justify his inclusion, slowing down play and failing to give his defence enough protection.

Replaced by Fred shortly after the hour and will be lucky to retain his spot, even if Pogba is not fit for the Europa League in midweek.

RAM: Andreas Pereira – 8

Forced Schmeichel into a top save in the opening minutes which set the tone for a bustling display.

The midfielder was fantastic on the ball, rarely failing to find a red shirt, and had plenty of energy to take the fight to Leicester as team-mates tired.

CAM: Juan Mata – 5

Stung Schmiechel’s hands with a drive and drifted into some promising areas but his lack of pace harms United in attack.

LAM: Daniel James – 7

Very busy throughout, carrying the ball well and threatening the Foxes rearguard at every opportunity.

Went close with a long-range strike and won his fair share of fouls without much reward.

ST: Marcus Rashford – 7

Won a stonewall penalty off Soyuncu and dusted himself down to send Schmeichel the wrong way from the spot in the opening minutes.

Then smashed a free-kick onto the woodwork in the closing moments, but rarely had a clear shot at goal in between.

SUB: Fred (on for Matic, 66 mins) – 6

Improved the tempo in United’s midfield.

SUB: Tahith Chong (on for Mata, 69 mins) – 5

Valuable first-team experience.

SUB: Axel Tuanzebe (on for James, 90 mins) – N/A

Another appearance for the tally.
