Game of Thrones: Jaime Lannister was destined for the Iron Throne – Here's why

Game of Thrones came to an epic conclusion earlier this year but some fans were disappointed with how things turned out for their favourite characters. Bran Stark (played by Issac Hempstead-Wright) ended the series as ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, however George R R Martin’s vision was very different.

The HBO series is based upon the fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire written by George R R Martin.

Despite the show coming to an end earlier this year, fans continue to share their theories and expose hidden explanations behind their favourite characters’ actions.

To this date, George RR Martin has not finished his ending to the books.

However it has now come to light that his conclusion may have been different to the series.

He added: “Exiled, Tyrion will change sides, making common cause with the surviving Starks to bring his brother down…”

Unfortunately Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) had a much more tragic ending and died during the fall of King’s Landing.

Martin’s description of the Lannister brother is also very different to the HBO character.

Even though Jaime did start out ruthless, he underwent a transformation throughout the series but returned to die with his sister and lover Cersei (Lena Headey).

Jaime was responsible for Bran becoming paralysed after throwing him from a tower to keep his affair with Cersei secret.

Later on, though, he enjoyed a friendship with Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) and the pair had a shared understanding with each other despite their loyalties to warring houses.

However realising Cersei was in danger, he rode to King’s Landing to be with her during Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) attack on the city.

As the city burned, the pair died in each other’s arms.
