Stacey Dooley, 32, and Kevin Clifton, 36, have been subjected to negative comments on social media ever since they confirmed their relationship. As a result, the Strictly Come Dancing winners were quick to comment on 28-year-old Jesy Nelson’s Odd One Out documentary, which addressed the impact of online bullying. Kevin took to Twitter to share his views on the BBC Three programme in view of his 234,000 followers and admitted he “related” to a lot things the Little Mix singer said. He wrote: “Just watched #JesyNelson doc. What an absolute star. Thank you for doing this. Very strong and brave. Related to a lot of things u said.”(sic)
Addressing trolls with “unkind agendas”, the professional dancer added: “All media/press and trolls who have unkind agendas should watch and please consider how your behaviour can affect people.”
Kevin’s documentary filmmaker girlfriend Stacey also gushed about Jesy’s “admirable” move.
The presenter tweeted in view of her 298,000 followers: “So admirable to put yourself out, so honestly like this…
“I’ve always been the BIGGEST @LittleMix fan, and always thought Jesy was amazing. Well done girl.”
Stacey continued to praise the singer in a separate post, writing: “My god, this doc. Jesy, you total star.
“To everyone who consistently digs out other people online, your behaviour has such serious consequences.”
The TV personality went on to insist social media users need to make an effort to be “kinder”.
“We all need to make a conscious effort to just be a bit kinder,” she concluded.
Kevin seemed to appreciate his other half’s sentiment as he retweeted her words on his own page.
Fans took to the comments sections of both Stacey and Kevin’s tweets to share their views on the documentary.
One person told Stacey: “@StaceyDooley can you use you influence to get this shown in schools? It’s such an important message – hopefully Jesy will lead the way and other major influencers will follow with their stories.”
Another replied to Kevin: “Unfortunately Kevin they feed off hate. And if they get publicity from it then they feel ratified. Absolutely nobody should be criticised for how they look or what they wear.”
“The most heartbreaking part was the mum of the 16-year-old who killed herself. People don’t think their words can lead to such events,” a third person wrote back.
Stacey and Kevin’s comments about Jesy’s documentary come after the ballroom and latin dancer hit back at claims about his Strictly 2019 pairing with Anneka Rice, 60.
Reports previously suggested Kevin was furious about the BBC’s partnership decision, supposedly claiming it is payback after his romance with Stacey came to light shortly after they won the competition.
However, the professional dancer dismissed the stories as “ridiculous” in a Twitter post, in which he stated: “Oh it’s ridiculous I just laugh nowadays. As usual a completely made up story.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on September 21.
