Pixel 4 release date may have leaked as new videos reveal Google phone in full

Pixel 4 is Google’s next flagship smartphone that is expected to come in two models: the standard Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL.

Back in June, Google announced the Pixel 4 and posted an image of its rear in a tweet – the device was shown with a new, square, camera system housing at least two sensors.

More recently, the tech giant revealed its newest device will come with new facial unlocking technologies housed in its top bezel.

Until recently, many of the device’s other features and design characteristics had remained relatively unclear.

However, this week a deluge of leaks have plagued the Pixel 4 – with two YouTube videos in particular seemingly outing most aspects of the device in full.

YouTube channels AnhEm TV and Rabbit TV have both posted hands-on footage with claimed Pixel 4 XL units this week.

The former only showed one handset while the latter appeared to exhibit three models in black, white and orange colours respectively.

The over six-minute upload from AnhEm TV showed the Pixel 4 with a confirmed square camera housing on its rear and a new all-screen design on its front.

It seems the Pixel 4’s display will be surrounded by minimal bezels all-around except at its top where a noticeable border will be present.

The clip showed off the Pixel 4’s redesigned camera app that did not appear to be a final build – the software was noticeably buggy.

With that said, the app overall looked simpler and more intuitive than on previous Pixel phones.

Most notably though, the video seemingly confirmed the Pixel 4 will boast a 90Hz display.

In the mobile’s Settings app, a feature was shown called “smooth display” – the description noted that turning it on would increase its refresh rate from 60Hz to 90Hz.

It read: “Smooth Display – dynamically adjusts the refresh rate between 60 and 90Hz.”

It was also noted the tool would drain battery life at a greater rate when enabled.

Another handy tool called “screen attention” was exhibited that appears to prevent the Pixel 4’s screen from turning off if the user is looking at it.

It is presumed the phone’s already discussed Soli radar technology is responsible for this feature.

Meanwhile, the video from Thailand-based YouTube channel Rabbit TV focused more heavily on the Pixel 4’s new camera system.

The clip compared shots between the Pixel 3 XL and the Pixel 4 XL – the latter was displayed to have a better zoom and an improved night mode.

In addition to all of the details discussed above, it seems the Pixel 4’s debut date may have also been outed.

Notable tipster Evan Blass recently posted what appeared to be an image of the Pixel 4 on Twitter – the device’s screen was turned on and displayed October 15 as its date.

The leaker then speculated this is when Google may unveil the new smartphone in full.

Such a date would not be completely foreign – the American tech giant has revealed all its previous Pixel devices during the month of October.
