NCIS season 17 spoilers: What really happened between Ziva and Tony revealed

CBS is gearing up for NCIS season 17, which starts on September 24. Fans of the series have been speculating about whether Tony DiNozzo (played by Michael Weatherly) will appear on-screen alongside his ex-partner Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). De Pablo and Leroy Gibbs star Mark Harmon recently revealed a big hint about what had happened between Tony and Ziva and whether they will be reunited in the new series of NCIS.

What really happened between Ziva and Tony on NCIS?

In an interview with TV Insider, de Pablo spoke about Ziva and Tony’s relationship since we last saw them together.

She said: “I don’t think Ziva and Tony have seen each other or communicated in a long time.

“Tali was delivered to him [by Mossad], and that was the end of it.”

However, she and Harmon heavily hinted he would be back in the new series.

When Harmon was asked whether Weatherley would return, he laughed and said: “Maybe.”

However, he also added: “Michael is a little busy at the moment.”

De Pablo added: “He’s shooting a procedural,” a reference to his CBS series Bull.

However, she hinted more news about Tony was to come when she told the reporter: “Don’t ask any questions, dot-dot-dot, to be continued.”

Last time we saw Tony on NCIS was in 2016.

This was when he found out Ziva had ‘died’ in Israel and headed to Paris to care for their daughter Tali (Emelia and Layla Golfieri).

Though NCIS fans were split over whether Tony knows that Ziva is still alive, de Pablo’s comments seem to suggest he does not.

By extension, this also means Tali thinks her mother is dead, meaning there could be a huge shock ahead of them.

De Pablo has hinted that Ziva and Tali’s relationship will be central to the first two episodes of NCIS season 17.

She said: “The only way to justify Ziva breaking cover and jeopardizing herself and the people at NCIS was to make the threat absolutely real.

“She lost her father [in season 10], so she feels responsible for her father figure, Gibbs, and has to save him.

“She’s also trying to keep her daughter a secret and safe from the people who are trying to get to Gibbs and to her.”
