Real Madrid want to host Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal exhibition match at the Bernabeu

Real Madrid are drawing up plans to host a tennis match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the Bernabeu, according to reports.

A board meeting took place on Sunday night in which members were told of the idea, along with proposals to introduce a Real Madrid women’s team.

According to Spanish newspaper ABC, Real president Perez has informed Nadal of his plans to put on a tennis match in front of 80,000 spectators.

That would more than double the largest ever attendance seen at a tennis match.

The current record stands at 35,681 when Kim Clijsters beat Serena Williams in an exhibition tie at the King Baudouin stadium in Brussels.

However, Federer and Nadal will break the record when they play their African friendly in front of 50,000 in February.

It is unclear when Perez is planning to put on the spectacular event.

But it would likely be once 38-year-old Federer has retired from the ATP tour.

Federer and Nadal have met on 40 occasions with the Spaniard holding a 24-16 advantage in their head-to-head record.

The pair came close to a first ever US Open meeting last week but Federer fell at the quarter-final stage to Grigor Dimitrov.

Nadal went on the win the title after an epic battle with Daniil Medvedev which lasted four hours and 50 minutes.

And after the match the world No 2 said: “I’m just very happy.

“This trophy means everything to me today. Personal satisfaction the way that I resisted all these tough moments is very high.

“Just I normally try to hold the emotions, but at the end for all these facts have been impossible today.”

Nadal and Federer are back in action at the Laver Cup next weekend where they will likely play doubles together for Team Europe.
