Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany will not play in his own testimonial at the Etihad tonight.
A Manchester City legends team will take on Premier League All-Stars in a celebration for Kompany’s Etihad career.
It was hoped that the Belgian defender would be able to step back on the Etihad pitch after leaving City in the summer.
Though injury has struck for Kompany, who now plays for Anderlecht.
Kompany was asked whether he would play and said: “Unfortunately no, I won’t be starting tonight or playing. It’s typical of me, I’ve got a slight hamstring injury so I couldn’t risk it tonight but there’s a lot of awesome players.
“It’s a celebration to say goodbye and I don’t have to be on the pitch. It’s for an unbelievable cause.
“For me not to play because of an injury … the irony hasn’t escaped anyone!”
There will still be plenty of former and current stars on show in Manchester tonight.
Current City aces Sergio Aguero and David Silva are both set to feature alongside the likes of Joe Hart, Mario Balotelli and Samir Nasri.
On the opposite team, Robin van Persie, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas will all feature for the Premier League All-Stars.
