According to a report from Variety.com, John Wesley, who’s perhaps most famous for appearing on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air as Dr. Hoover, died after struggling with cancer at the age of 72. In a statement to the New York Daily News, the Fresh Prince alum’s manager, Gerry Pass, confirmed the tragic news.
In the statement, John’s manager said Mr. Wesley’s endearing idiosyncrasies are forever embedded in all of his contributions to film and television over the years. John’s manager stated that he was “heartbroken” at the news of his client’s passing.
Wesley grew up in Louisiana and was an alumnus at two universities, the University of San Diego as well as the University Of California. However, years before he started working as an actor, John worked in the US Army at the height of the Vietnam War.
While John never became an A-list actor, he did work alongside some of the biggest names in the game, including Barbara Streisand, Morgan Freeman, and Denzel Washington. Of course, Wesley also worked alongside Will Smith in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the series which began Will Smith’s career from a successful rapper to a Hollywood juggernaut.
Wesley found work in other projects as well like Big Fish, Benson, The Jeffersons, Fraser, and Martin. John was married to Jenny Houston and is survived by siblings and grandchildren, including his daughters Kinshasha Houston and Kimiko Kamiel Houston.

In terms of the actor’s most recent career, John had a role in 2016’s The Midnighters, from Julian Fort. The very last thing he worked on was his manager’s short film, Second Acts, with Anya Adams sitting in the director’s chair.

Furthermore, Wesley took his talent on the stage including in Ionesco’s Macbett, and Toys in the Attic from Lillian Hellman. The star also appeared in An American Clock and Wild Oats, written by Arthur Miller and Mark Taper Forum, respectively.
