Piers Morgan Twitter: Star questions 'disturbing development' in Gary Lineker feud

Piers Morgan, 54, and Gary Lineker, 58, have been locked in an ongoing squabble on social media for a long time. Yesterday, however, the Good Morning Britain host was taken aback by a “deeply disturbing development” in their usually rowing relationship. The unexpected turn came after Piers shared his view on the England cricket team with his 6.8 million Twitter followers, writing: “I think England should stick with @root66 as captain. He’s young, he’s learning, he has the respect of his teammates, he’s keen to continue, and there aren’t any obvious alternatives.

“Losing the Ashes to a very strong Australian team is not a time to panic,” he added.

Contrary to his usual reaction to Piers’ views, Gary concurred.

Retweeting the post in view of his own 7.4 million followers, the Match Of The Day presenter simply said: “Agreed.”

Clearly surprised, Piers replied: “Good grief Jugs – have we finally reached a point of consensus?

“This is a deeply troubling development,” he quipped.

At the weekend, Piers and Gary’s relationship was in its normal state of tit-for-tat when the former decided to take swipe at the ex-footballer over Gary Lineker’s sex life revelation.

Following an interview in which Gary said he wasn’t “massively into sex”, Piers took the opportunity to mock his sparring partner on Twitter.

During the England football team’s Euro qualifier against Bulgaria, which the Three Lions wound up winning 4-0, Gary tweeted: “England running amok here. Goals are there for the taking.”

Making fun of the presenter’s love life admission, Piers commented cheekily: “Better than sex, Jugs?”

Elsewhere, the pair regularly lock horns when it comes to politics.

Last month, Piers Morgan hit back tore Gary Lineker apart over Brexit after the latter called Boris Johnson’s decision to suspend Parliament “remarkably undemocratic”.

Following the news Parliament would be suspended this month, Gary said: “Great to get our sovereignty back. The government’s argument that they’re doing this for democracy is remarkably undemocratic.”

“Says the man who has howled or three years that we should ignore the result of a democratic vote…” Piers snapped back.

Staying true to the to-and-fro nature of their usual spats, Gary soon replied: “Never have I said that we should ignore the result. That indeed would be undemocratic.

“We could though look at the crooked, trying nature of how it was sold to us back then by the elite now dictating (literally) and deice as a democratic country if that’s still what we want,” he insisted.

Not backing down, Piers remarked: “Mate, it doesn’t get more elite than you… as BBC license fee payers know to our cost.”

Proving two could play at that game, Gary tweeted: “Mate, it doesn’t get much more elite than ostentatiously showing off your wealth (you constantly tell me you earn way more than me) with a deluge of pictures by marauding, around the Côte d’Azur on a yacht.”
