Chelsea boss Frank Lampard receives Callum Hudson-Odoi contract boost

Chelsea ace Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to sign a new at the club worth £180,000 a week.

Frank Lampard has been desperate to tie Hudson-Odoi down to a long-term contract after the club rejected several bids from Bayern Munich in January.

The 18-year-old was said to been keen on a move to Germany, but the Blues were set on rejecting bids of any amount.

Hudson-Odoi is now set to sign a five-year extension to his deal that runs out at the end of the season after agreeing terms.

After arriving from Derby one of Lampard’s key tasks was to convince the forward to stay for the long-term future, as he made clear in one of his first interviews.

He said: “Firstly, I’d love him to stay at Chelsea.

“He needs to be doing everything to get in that team. Is he working hard and is he developing every day in training and trying to improve?

“I don’t know him that well but I’m sure that’s the standard at Chelsea he’s going by himself.

“Every minute he gets on the pitch he needs to be doing everything he can.

“I understand Chelsea fans want to see more of him and he has to do everything he can to give himself the chance of minutes.

“I think at the end of the season he will look back and think what can I do with my career.

“It’s a mad one because a young English player at Chelsea at that age then you really want him to sign that long-term contract.”

Hudson-Odoi made his England debut before he was handed a Premier League start for Chelsea as Gareth Southgate showed his trust in the prospect.

The Three Lions boss said last season: “If you look at number of appearances, he has actually been on the field quite a lot.

“And I know from when we were talking with the club earlier in the season how much faith Maurizio has in him.

“He has got some outstanding players just in front of him but he’s slowly getting more and more game time.”
