WhatsApp block: How to unblock someone on WhatsApp? iOS and Android guide

WhatsApp users share instant messages and multimedia files for free. The app works on nearly all smartphone models, is available for computers, and works on Wi-Fi, 3G, and 4G networks. Users may reach a point when they need to block someone so they can no longer contact them on WhatsApp – here is how to do so.

How to block contact on WhatsApp:

There are actually several options for blocking a contact on WhatsApp.

Begin by tapping Settings, Account, Privacy, Blocked and Add New.

Then find the contact you wish to block, then select the contact.

An alternative is to open the chat with the contact, then tap the contact’s name, then select Block Contact, Block or Report and Block.

Swipe left the chat with the contact in your Chats tab, then tap More, Contact Info, Block Contact, Block or Report and Block.

How to block an unknown phone number on WhatsApp:

Users have a couple of options to block an unknown phone number on WhatsApp.

If this is the first time users have been contacted by that phone number, they can open the chat and select Block.

Open the chat with the unknown phone number, then hit the phone number, Block Contact, Block or Report and Block.

Messages, calls and status updates sent by a blocked contact will not appear on your phone and will never be delivered to you.

Your last seen, online, status updates and any changes made to your profile photo will no longer be visible to contacts blocked on WhatsApp.

Blocking a contact will not remove them from your contacts list, nor will it remove you from the list on the contact’s phone.

To delete a contact, users must delete the contact from their phone’s address book.

How to unblock contacts on WhatsApp:

It is equally easy to unblock contacts on WhatsApp via Settings, Account, Privacy and Blocked.

Then simply swipe left on the contact’s name.

An alternative option is to tap Edit, the red minus sign icon and tap Unblock.

A final way is to open the chat with the contact, then tap the contact’s name and select Unblock Contact.

Swipe left the chat with the contact in your Chats tab, then tap More, Contact Info and Unblock Contact.

Remember – if you unblock a contact, you will not receive any messages, calls and status updates the contact sent you during the time they were blocked.

How to know if you are blocked on WhatsApp:

There are several indicators users have been blocked on WhatsApp:

Users can no longer see a contact’s last seen or online in the chat window.

Users do not see updates to a contact’s profile photo.

Any messages sent to a contact who has blocked them will always show the message sent mark and never show a message delivered mark.

Finally, any calls you attempt to place via WhatsApp will not go through.
