Man Utd hero Nemanja Vidic makes Celtic Park claim that Hoops fans will love

Nemanja Vidic has named Celtic Park as one of the most intimidating away grounds to play at.

The Serbian defender made 491 club appearances between 2000 and 2016, with exactly 300 of those coming in the red shirt of Manchester United.

The imposing centre back formed a memorable partnership with Rio Ferdinand that is considered one of the best in Premier League history, but it was in Europe that he found a ground that intimidated him.

Speaking in his interview with The Athletic, the 37-year-old was asked if any grounds made him uneasy as a player, and mentioned Glasgow’s Celtic Park.

He said when asked if any fans he came up against were daunting: ”They were in Naples, which had a reputation for being loud and intimidating.

“When you have played at Red Star you don’t really get intimidated.

“Maybe only at Celtic Park for the first 10 minutes of a game when the fans breathe fire towards the players.

“I loved playing at Celtic and felt like it was my mentality that I had grown up with.”

Celtic have dominated Scottish football in recent years but have failed to reach the Champions League group stages for the past two seasons.

Neil Lennon was keen to right that wrong this season, but defeat to Romanian outfit Cluj made them drop down to the Europa League.

In terms of Premiership football, the Hoops boosted their chances of a ninth consecutive title after beating Rangers 2-0 before the international break.

Club legend Kenny Dalglish gave his thoughts on the result, and suggested that they could go all season unbeaten.

Dalglish said in the Sunday Post: “I have to say there is no doubt Celtic will take a bit of stopping.

“Indeed, I’m struggling to see a side out there that will beat them this season. And I include Rangers in that.

“They remain the biggest threat to Celtic but they still have an awful lot of work to do.

“They have improved under Steven Gerrard and will continue to do so. But they are still behind their great rivals on the other side of Glasgow.”
