Friends: How many times did Ross get married?

Friends exploded onto screens in 1994, coming to an end in 2004 after 10 seasons and 236 episodes. David Schwimmer starred as the loveable Ross Geller, who was very unlucky in love throughout the show’s history until the final season. In season one, Ross was a recent divorcee but his first wife was not his only failed marriage.

How many times did Ross get married?

Ross Geller, also known as Ross the Divorcer or Ross the Divorce Force was married three times in total.

Here’s everything you need to know about Ross’s failed marriages.

1. Carol Willick (season 1)

He first got married to Carol Willick (played by Jane Sibbett), who he met in 1988.

They later got married and had a son together, called Ben.

With Ross and Carol’s sex life practically non-existent, Ross came up with the idea of inviting a third party into the relationship.

Carol invited her friend Susan Bunch (Jessica Hecht) and during the threesome, Ross was pretty much left like a spare part, famously making himself a sandwich as Carol and Susan got together.

Early in season one, Ross and Carol got divorced, which left him insecure and paranoid about his future relationships.

Halfway through season one, Carol revealed she was pregnant with Ross’s child and went into labour towards the end of the series.

Carol gave birth to their son called Ben, who she co-parents with Ross and Susan.

2. Emily Waltham (season 4)

Ross’s long-term on-and-off girlfriend Rachel Green (Jennifer Anniston) introduced Ross and Emily (Helen Baxendale) to each other.

Rachel asked Ross to take his boss’s niece to the opera, something she quickly regrets as Ross and Emily end up spending the night together in Vermont.

Emily and Ross’s relationship happened very quickly and he proposed to her so she could move to the U.S.

For the first time, the Friends (minus Phoebe, played by Lisa Kudrow) travelled abroad to Emily and Ross’s wedding in London.

However, the wedding was a total disaster when Ross said Rachel’s name instead of Emily’s at the altar.

Emily is willing to forgive Ross at the last minute until she sees him almost boarding a plane to their honeymoon destination in Greece with Rachel by his side.

Despite numerous attempts to win his wife over, Emily and Ross got divorced.

Later in the series, Ross finds out Emily is getting married and on the eve of her wedding, she calls Ross and leaves a voice message, where she confesses she wonders if they gave up on their relationship too quickly.

However, Rachel was able to convince Ross to not call Emily back, due to how much suffering she put him through.

3. Rachel Green (season 6)

Will-they-won’t-they couple Rachel and Ross shocked viewers in season six when they tied the knot in Vegas.

Rachel and Ross were drunk at the time and agreed it was a mistake, seeking an annulment.

Ross, later realising he would be divorced three-time, lied to Rachel, telling her he had taken care of the annulment when he had not.

Rachel soon found out that she was still legally married to Ross and stormed into his NYU classroom shouting and screaming at him about being his wife.

Together, Ross and Rachel go to judge to file for an annulment but out of anger, Rachel’s application painted Ross’s character in a terrible light.

Because of Rachel’s joking around, the judge decided not to grant them annulment and told them they had to get a divorce.

Before Ross goes to hand in the divorce papers, they both agreed that if they really got married, their marriage would be the one that would last forever.

Thankfully, Rachel and Ross were able to make their way back to each other by season 10 and who knows, if Friends was ever to have a revival, maybe Ross and Rachel would be husband and wife.
