‘Absolutely shambolic defending’ – Liverpool fans hammer Dejan Lovren over Croatia goal

Liverpool supporters are criticising Dejan Lovren after the defender’s poor defensive display for Croatia against Azerbaijan.

Lovren allowed Tamkin Xalilzada to run past him unchallenged to score Azerbaijan’s equaliser.

Croatia were expected to bypass their opponents with no problems, but they had to settle for a 1-1 draw in their Euro 2020 qualifier in Maksimir.

Xalilzada began his mazy run in the far corner of the 18-yard box before cutting inside and beating a couple of players.

The forward then came across Lovren, who clearly didn’t fancy making a tackle at the risk of giving away a penalty.

Xalilzada side-stepped the Liverpool centre-back before putting his effort in the top corner.

And Liverpool fans couldn’t help but hammer the Champions League winner for his lack of efforts.

One said: “Lovren with yet ANOTHER mistake, thank goodness he isn’t anywhere near Liverpool ‘s first team.”

Another went with: “What was Lovren doing there? That was too easy.”

A third wrote: “Lovren just got absolutely skinned from an Azerbaijan player….. Absolutely shambolic defending.”

Someone else tweeted: “Lovren left dead by an amateur striker hence he is not starting for Liverpool.”

One wrote: “Lovren screaming at other players for his mistake is humurous.”

Another took a more blunt approach, tweeting: “Lovren is genuinely horrendous.”

Someone else tweeted: “Lovren just got done like a school boy defender by Azerbaijan player.”

And lastly, this Liverpool fan said: “Lovren is actually s**t. He let such a player go past him like that.”
