Motsi Mabuse: 'It pays off' Strictly Come Dancing 2019 judge backs dramatic format change

Motsi Mabuse, 38, recently spoke out in support of same-sex dance partnerships competing on Strictly Come Dancing. The new judge, who is replacing Darcey Bussell, 50, on the panel this year, pointed out the BBC show is in fact behind other countries in making the change. Motsi explained to Gay Times: “Strictly is probably aware of the changes that are happening socially.” Reflecting on her time as a judge on Let’s Dance in Germany, the South African professional dancer revealed: “In Germany, we’ve completely gone that way.

“We’ve had two ladies dancing together.”

Motsi went on to say the inclusive adaptation improved the dance competition’s ratings and increased its appeal with viewers.

“The ratings proved the point that sometimes, if you risk something, it pays off.

“It might go wrong – but at least you tried. The worst thing you can do is stay on the same spot,” the star insisted.

She continued in reference to Strictly: “I respect traditions but you need to keep developing.”

The BBC series has been gradually adding same-sex couples over the past few years.

In 2018, Strictly showcased a group routine where the professional dancers performed in same-sex pairings.

The dance reportedly took place after judge Craig Revel Horwood, 54, campaigned for the move.

A spokesperson previously told Metro.co.uk the show is “open to the prospect of including same sex pairings between celebrities and professional dancers”.

They said: “Strictly Come Dancing is an inclusive show and we are proud to have featured same sex dancing amongst the professional dancers in group numbers in previous series.

“We are completely open to the prospect of including same sex pairings between our celebrities and professional dancers in the future, should the opportunity arise.”

Elsewhere, Motsi put on a busty display in a revealing swimsuit while enjoying a day at the beach.

Oti Mabuse’s, 29, sister showed off her curves in a low-cut one-piece, accessorising with a colourful headscarf and oval sunglasses.

Kicking her legs up behind her, Motsi could be seen lounging on the sand and beaming for the camera.

“Life is one big road with lots of signs,” she captioned the post in view of her 324,000 followers.

“So when you riding through the ruts, don’t complicate your mind.

“Flee from hate, mischief and negative energy, don’t bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake up and live!”

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 launches tonight at 7.10pm on BBC One.
