According to a report from Page Six, Carol Lynley, an actress who once had a starring role in The Poseidon Adventure, passed away at the age of 77-years. This past Friday, her daughter Jill Selsman, confirmed that Carol passed away in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Lynley had a long and illustrious Hollywood career, first receiving a Golden Globe nomination for her appearence in the movie, Blue Denim, released in 1959, which told the tale of a young girl looking to get an abortion. She first brought the character to life on Broadway.
While she was most famous as the pop singer, Nonnie Parry, in The Poseidon Adventure, from 1972, Carol had a long career and appeared in approximately 100 different productions, films and television series among them.
In the classic movie, she performs the song, “The Morning After,” which went on to win the Academy Award for best song, however, the vocals were dubbed, in other words, she never actually sang it. Approximately two years later, in 1961, she appeared in Return To Peyton Place, in which she starred as an author.

As a performer, Lynley had been active since the mid ’50s, acting and modeling for over five decades by the end of her career. Later on in her career, Carol also made smaller appearances in highly notable series including Hawaii Five-O, The Love Boat, as well as Fantasy Island. According to Selsman, her daughter, Carol loved being in movies and loved watching them as well.
Selsman, who now has her own video production company, said that her mother was the type of person who loved performing and all of its entities, including Broadway, ballet, and dancing.
Born in New York, she first got her start as a child model and was given a profile by Life Magazine, appearing on the cover when she was 15-years-old. She starred in The Potting Shed around the same time as well.
Previously, she was married to the publicist, Michael Selsman, marrying him in 1960, but eventually getting a divorce in 1964. She had one daughter with him, Jill.

Moreover, Lynley reportedly had an on-and-off affair with the writer and English broadcaster, David Frost. As for the rumored cause of death, Lynley allegedly died from a heart attack.
