Zooey Deschanel and her husband Jacob Pechenik have called it quits after four years of marriage.
The New Girl alum and the film producer released a joint statement announcing the end of their marriage earlier today.
“After much discussion and a long period of contemplation, we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners, and co-parents rather than life partners. We remain committed to our business, our values, and most of all, our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time,” they shared with E! News.
Deschanel and Pechenik have always been extremely private when it comes to their relationship. They are super protective of each other, as well as their two children.

The former couple secretly wed back in 2015, shortly before welcoming their first child together, Elsie Otter Pechenik. Their intimate wedding took place in Austin, Texas that June.
Their little girl was born a few weeks later in July. They welcomed their son, Charlie Wolf Pechenik two years later in 2017.
Fans of the hit FOX sitcom will recall Deschanel’s character, Jessica Day became part of a sequestered jury to give the actress time to enjoy her first maternity leave. She was pregnant with her son during the filming of the final season of New Girl, but the show hid her growing belly.
Earlier this year Deschanel spoke to People magazine regarding being a mom and ensuring she keeps work separate from her family.
“To them, I’m just Mom. They don’t really watch TV anyway. They don’t watch anything. It’s basically books and coloring books and toys and stuff,” the actress explained.
The brunette beauty does not share pictures of her children on social media either. It is her way of shielding them from the Hollywood spotlight.

The 38-year-old actress and her 47-year-old beau met on the set of the Bill Murray comedy, Rock the Kasbah. Their engagement followed months after their first meeting.
