Daniil Medvedev will hope Rafael Nadal and Matteo Berrettini do battle long into the night at the US Open.
Nadal and Berrettini face each other in the semi-final in New York with Medvedev awaiting the winner in Sunday’s final.
The Russian saw off Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets to book his place in his first Grand Slam final.
And will now sit back in his hotel, with a bag of popcorn, as he finds out who he will face in the Big Apple.
When asked following his win over Dimitrov how he will be watching the other semi, Medvedev said: “Popcorn in front of TV, just like you guys here. I’ll be watching and it will be a great match.”
Nadal faces Berrettini with the Italian in his first ever Grand Slam semi-final.
Indeed, the 23-year-old had never even progressed past the fourth round at a Major until this fortnight in New York.
He faces 18-time Grand Slam winner Nadal in the semi-final with the Spaniard a massive favourite.
But Nadal knows it won’t be an easy task against Berrettini.
The Spanish legend said: “He’s in semi-finals. Berrettini is having a great year. He’s in semi-finals winning a lot of good matches, so what you can expect in a semi-finals of a Grand Slam match.
“You can’t expect an easy opponent. You can’t expect an easy match.
“I really believe that if you want to win tournaments, you need to go through tough opponents like I had against Marin [Cilic], today against Diego.
“He was playing great the whole event and now another player that is playing great.
“He’s serving huge, big forehands, moving well, and big confidence because he’s having a great year.
“So let’s see. I need to play my best, and I think today I make a step forward, even if I lost my serve, as you said, couple of times.”
