Kate Middleton style: Duchess is still a royal ‘in progress’ expert reveals

Back in April 2011, Kate Middleton and Prince William tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey. Before joining the Royal Family, Kate led a fairly normal life. After graduating from the University of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland, Kate accepted a position as an accessory buyer with British retailer Jigsaw. In November 2007, she decided to leave Jigsaw and began working as a photographer, website designer, and marketing officer for her parents’ event planning company, Party Pieces. The following year, she launched a junior brand to the firm called First Birthdays, and continued to work with her family until January 2011, just months before she married William. Kate’s engagement to William was announced to the world in October 2010. Nine years on, and life couldn’t be more different for the royal.

Now known as the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate is also a mum to her and William’s three children – Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one.

So has her style changed to match her title?

Fashion stylist Melita Latham compared some of Kate’s outfits since marrying Prince William to her style before, and she told Express.co.uk that Kate hasn’t quite mastered royal style just yet.

She said: “Kate’s fashion after marriage is still a royal transformation in progress.”

Although Melita believes Kate is still adjusting to royal style, she says the Duchess has found ways to pay homage to William’s late mother Princess Diana.

“Her conservative style is more apparent now than ever before. She also pays her respects in the form of her clothing choices that allow us to remember Princess Diana which is a very honourable thing to do by Kate,” she continued.

In June, Kate was pictured wearing an off-the-shoulder cream dress as she attended the first annual gala dinner in recognition of Addiction Awareness.

The Duchess first wore the stunning gown in 2016, and she has been known to recycle her looks before.

Melita continued: “Kate isn’t afraid to rewear outfits from prior to getting married. Whether married or not if you like an outfit you will wear it more than once, that’s what we all do.”

While the Duchess is adjusting her style slightly to meet royal protocol, Melita says Kate has stayed true to what she calls the Duchess’ “signature look.”

“In recent times we have seen Kate have an understated style with subtle changes but still in keeping with what has become her signature look,” Melita explained.
