Grace and Frankie cancelled: Why has Grace and Frankie been cancelled by Netflix?

Netflix has announced that Grace and Frankie will end after season seven. Fans of the show have been left wondering why the series has been cancelled by Netflix. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin have both released a statement revealing their thoughts about the cancellation of their show.

Why has Grace and Frankie been cancelled by Netflix?

In a joint statement, Fonda and Tomlin said: “We are both delighted and heartbroken that Grace and Frankie will be back for its seventh, though final, season.

“We’re so grateful that our show has been able to deal with issues that have really connected to our grand generation.

“And their kids, and amazingly, their kids as well! We’ll miss these two old gals, Grace and Frankie, as much as many of their fans will, but we’ll still be around.

“We’ve outlasted so many things — just hope we don’t outlast the planet.”

Though this statement does not give many clues about why Grace and Frankie is cancelled, other statements from the show do.

It seems as if the show ended simply because it was time for the show to come to a close – and as we’re only on season five, fans have two more seasons to look forward to.

After all, as Grace and Frankie season seven will have 16 episodes, the series will be the longest-running in Netflix history.

This was alluded to in a statement from series creators Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris.

They said: “It’s thrilling and somehow fitting, that our show about the challenges, as well as the beauty and dignity of aging, will be the oldest show on Netflix.”

After its final 16 episodes have aired, there will be 94 total episodes of Grace and Frankie.

This is three more than the next longest, Orange is the New Black, which bowed out this week after 91 episodes.

Grace and Frankie’s four main stars all at least in their late ‘70s, and with multiple Oscar nominations and wins between them.

As such, it would be no surprise if Fonda, Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson wanted to call time on the show and have some time to put their feet up.

Netflix has not yet announced when the final season of Grace and Frankie will air.

However, the supersized series is expected to air in January 2020.
