Gears of War 5 release date LIVE: Best prices for the biggest Xbox One exclusive of 2019

Gears 5 is beginning to rev up its chainsaw bayonet, and the hills are alive with the screams of all the monsters players are about to cut in two. The Coalition’s second entry in the franchise is sure to shake things up, not least in the switch to new protagonist Kait.

Despite the game officially launching on September 10, we’ll show you how you can play the game right now – that’s right, a whole weekend of Gears 5 before release!

Don’t forget, Gears 5 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so once you’ve purchased it for your Xbox One you can also play on PC.

Standard Edition

The Standard Edition of Gears 5 releases on September 10, and offers quite an interesting pre-order bonus. If you play by September 16, you’ll unlock the Terminator Dark Fate Character Pack (yes, really). That means you can play as the T-800 or legendary heroine Sarah Connor, grab an exclusive Lancer weapon skin, and earn seven days of experience boost for free.

Xbox Game Pass

Easily the cheapest way of getting into Gears 5, the game launches into Game Pass on September 10 – this means if you’re a member of the subscription service (and you really should be) you can start playing at launch.

Even better, if you’re a member of Game Pass Ultimate you can begin playing the Ultimate Edition today – all included in your £10.99 per month membership. And with Microsoft’s current offer, you can jump into Game Pass for just £2 for your first two months. This includes Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass for Console AND Xbox Game Pass for PC – making this an incredible offer.

Gears 5 looks to be the long-running franchise’s biggest entry yet. With a full campaign, multiplayer, horde mode and the new Escape mode, there’s plenty for newcomers and veterans to get stuck into.

The franchise began as Gears Of War in 2006 on the Xbox 360, and has since become a gaming phenomenon. Originally created by Epic Games – who would go on to create Fortnite – the rights were purchased by Microsoft in 2014 and handed over a new studio to oversee development. Gears 5 is The Coalition’s second game at the helm of the franchise following the excellent Gears of War 4. You can find our review here.
