Mark Labbett: The Chase quizzer reveals bizarre trick to be a contestant on the show

Mark Labbett, 54, took to Twitter and responded to a viewer of The Chase who hinted they had tried to become a contestant on the ITV series. It comes after the quizmaster recently took to the micro-blogging site and wrote in view of his 114,000 followers: “New episodes of #thechase tonight.” The social media user replied: “And I’ve still not been called for an audition to be a contestant! What does a girl have to do?” Mark seemingly revealed what they would need to do in order to stand out from the crowd and join the contestant line-up.

He said: “Have a funny story ready.”

To which the Twitter user replied: “Thanks – watch this space!”

The teatime game show sees four lucky contestants go up against one of Britain’s best quiz brains in a bid to win thousands of pounds.

The current process to get on the show is through an online application process which can be accessed via the ITV website.

Meanwhile, Mark – who has been a quizzer on The Chase since 2009 – recently spoke about a rival television series.

The ITV favourite appears to be a big fan of Jeremy Clarkson’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?.

But he wasn’t happy recently with the million pound question on last week’s show as he took aim at the programme on social media.

Mark admitted it was the “hardest” million pound question he had faced.

ITV tweeted a picture of the question, which read: “Which of these people was born the same year as Queen Elizabeth II?”

The contestant had to choose between four answers: “Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, Julie Andrews or Marilyn Monroe.”

They tweeted: “The million pound question!! #WhoWantsToBeAMillioanaire @MillionaireUK.”

Mark replied: “That’s got to be the hardest million pound question ever imo.”(sic)

Before adding: “You need to know up to five bits of data, the dates of birth of all five women.”

One fan corrected Mark: “Up to four, no? If you knew four you’d either identify the pair or know the pair must be the fifth.”

The Chase star replied: “Fair enough but still very tough imo. Plus blooming difficult for a PAF in 30 seconds.”(sic)

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV from 5pm.
