Jennifer Aniston Sparks Backlash For Tanned Skin Color On InStyle Magazine Cover

According to a report from NBC News, Jennifer Aniston recently graced the cover of InStyle Magazine’s October issue, however, one image, in particular, caused a backlash. In the eyes of some social media users, the problematic photo posted to Instagram on Wednesday described Jennifer Aniston as “babe eternal,” however, it was her skin-tone that was the issue.

The post advertised Jennifer Aniston’s appearence in the magazine as the Hollywood starlet showcasing some of the iconic looks from the 1960s and the 1970s. “And now she’s stretching her boundaries,” the Instagram post for InStyle read.

The photo on the magazine cover appeared to be air-brushed and the skin-tone especially dark, which fans online weren’t pleased with. Wearing a black DKNY bra, Elizabeth Locke, John Hardy, and Reinstein Ross bracelets, as well as a Lalaounis necklace, Jennifer explained what it has been like to turn 50-years-old in Hollywood.

Many people online aimed their criticism at the publication, specifically, accusing them of making her complexion to appear similar to Rachel Dolezal, a woman who gained attention in 2015 across the nation for saying she was black while working as an NAACP leader.

One user by the name of Patricia Birch stated that the magazine was inadvertently calling to another bygone era which “marginalized women of color for white women.” Another person online told InStyle that if they wanted a brown-skin woman on the cover, they should’ve just hired one.

Some individuals, on the other hand, defended Jennifer, stating that she has had a nice tan ever since she appeared on the NBC hit, Friends, which made Aniston a huge star. Thus far, neither Jennifer Aniston’s representative nor InStyle’s spokesperson has commented.

Followers of Jen’s know that she has been candid about the issues women face in the film industry, particularly, in regards to aging, but also romance issues as well.

Jen has said in the past that the way she was portrayed as an aging woman who couldn’t find a man in the past was particularly harmful to the culture, and society, as a result.
