Taylor Swift’s New Album Lover Accounted For 27% Of All US Record Sales This Past Week

According to a report from Billboard, Taylor Swift’s newest record, Lover, accounted for approximately 27% of album sales in the United States this past week. According to the data acquired from Nielsen Music, Lover managed to sell 679,000 copies in the week leading up to the 29th of August.

Explained in another way, this means that out of all records sold in the United States this past week, Taylor’s newest LP accounted for a little more than 1 out of 4. Reportedly, this wouldn’t be the first time that a record from a single artist would account for so much of the market share.

Reportedly, Taylor’s last album, reputation, had 29% of the market share in its first week, and Adele’s 25 also had a whopping 41% of the market as well. Moreover, because of Taylor’s album sales, the music industry managed to get its second-biggest week of the year in 2019.

Taylor’s Lover did so well that even after its first week on the charts, it is the biggest-selling album of 2019 after just one week. The next big record of the year was Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s soundtrack to A Star Is Born, which managed to sell 447,000.

While it was a good week, albums sales, in general, are still continuing on the downward trend, as more and more individuals are opting out of physical media and going for, instead, streaming services. In 2019, claims Billboard, album sales decreased by 19% from last year, which is a huge spiral downward.

Previously, Taylor took to her social media to thank her fans for continuing to support her work. The singer/songwriter said she had one of the best weeks of her life due to the tremendous fan reception toward the record, as well as the number of units sold as well.

This is otherwise good news for Taylor, who, back in June, was embroiled in a scandal with her former record label owner, Scott Borchetta, and Scooter Braun.

Scooter Braun bought her master recordings for $300,000,000, despite Taylor wanting to own the rights to her music. However, Scott later came out and said she was given the chance, to which Taylor responded that his offer wasn’t the same as what Scooter had been offered and eventually given.
