Nintendo announces major new partnership ahead of September 2019 Direct conference

Nintendo has made a surprise announcement ahead of the September 2019 Direct conference.

And it’s good news for any youngsters who have gone back to school or college today, because Nintendo has been announced as the lead partner of the Digital Schoolhouse (DSH) programme.

The Digital Schoolhouse programme is a not-for-profit educational scheme run by UK video game organisation UKIE.

It uses play-based learning to help students and teachers get to grips with the new Computing curriculum.

Nintendo will support the scheme through its own take on play-based learning and by teaching industry best practices to roughly 32,000 pupils in over 55 schools and colleges.

The company believes it will help to bridge the gap between education and the video game industry.

Even more exciting is its plan to run a special Super Smash Bros Ultimate eSports tournament.

More than just an excuse to play Smash Bros all day, the Digital Schoolhouse Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Team Battle will be used to cultivate industry skills.

This includes professional eSports roles like team hosting and production. It will reach 60 schools and colleges and over 6,000 students.

Nintendo’s Kalpesh Tailor explains more: “Through Digital Schoolhouse Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Team Battle with Nintendo Switch, as well as through other play-based learning initiatives, we want to be able to provide young adults with fun and unique experiences that will form positive lasting memories as well as foster the development of skillsets within students which they can take with them into their future.”

The news comes as Nintendo plans to hold a 40-minute Direct conference for September.

Taking place on September 4, the September 2019 Nintendo Direct presentation will kick off at 11pm BST in the UK.

Fans in Europe face a late night for new information about Pokemon Sword and Shield, Link’s Awakening and Luigi’s Mansion 3.

“Nintendo Direct is coming soon!” Nintendo confirms. “Join us for a global presentation, lasting approximately 40 minutes, featuring information focused on 2019 Nintendo Switch titles, including Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield and Luigi’s Mansion 3.”

Fans can live stream the Nintendo Direct over on the company’s YouTube channel.
