EastEnders spoilers: Linda Carter faces ‘big crisis’ in huge alcoholism storyline

Linda Carter (played by Kellie Bright) has been struggling to come to terms with everything that’s happened to her on her EastEnders’ journey.

The beloved barmaid had to deal with her husband, Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) being falsely imprisoned and his recent panic attacks.

All the while coping with her own scare with cancer and her son, Ollie’s suspected Autism.

Although she has put on a brave face, it seems it’s all become a little bit too much for Linda and in the coming weeks, she will turn to the bottle.

What’s more, the storyline will grow and EastEnders fans will see Linda at her most vulnerable.

While struggling to hide her condition, those around her will no doubt rally around her and try to bring her to recovery.

EastEnders have been working with Drinkaware for the storyline, who are pleased to be highlighting such a dangerous and life-threatening condition.

Elaine Hindal, from the charity, said of Linda’s upcoming battle: “Feeling pressure to drink, having a drink to celebrate or drinking to cope or relax – these are all common situations that many adults would recognise.

“The fact is the overwhelming majority of people don’t have a serious problem with alcohol. But it might surprise you to know that you don’t always have to be drinking to extreme levels to become dependent on alcohol.

“What’s more, regularly drinking above recommended levels can lead to a range of health conditions.”

She continued: “Working with EastEnders on this storyline will help us put a spotlight on the potentially harmful result of getting into the habit of drinking regularly.

“Credit to the script writers who are sensitively showing the journey of how easy it can be for someone to develop risky drinking habits.

“Linda’s experiences with alcohol demonstrate why it’s important to be able to recognise signs that you, or someone you care about, could be developing drinking habits that could cause harm to themselves or others.”

Current EastEnders Executive Producer, Jon Sen said of the upcoming storyline: “This autumn the Carters will face one of their biggest crises to date when Linda turns to alcohol to escape the increasing pressures of her family life.

“Linda’s descent into alcoholism will be instantly recognisable to many – a journey that begins with a single drink to cope with the everyday ups and downs but quickly escalates to a point which wreaks devastation on their life and the lives of those around them.

“In telling Linda’s story we hope that anyone in Linda’s situation or those around them notice the signs of alcoholism and seek the help needed.”

Meanwhile, there has been plenty of drama on EastEnders to keep fans gripped, as Hunter Owen (Charlie Winter) is out of prison to get revenge.

The bad boy has escaped his sentence and has blood on the mind for Jack Branning (Scott Maslan).

However, his plan for revenge could go wrong when he accidentally kills Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) in the crossfire.

EastEnders continues tomorrow on BBC at 8pm.
