Best keto diet breakfast recipes – eat this 260 calorie meal to kick start your day

Breakfast is said to be one of the most important meals of the day.

What should one eat in the morning if they are following the low-carb keto plan?

Luckily for followers of the keto diet, eggs and cheese are very much on the menu to brighten up the morning.

Many keto dieters enjoy getting creative with breakfast, as they eschew the typical toast or cereal.

So, what are some of the best keto breakfasts?

A simple egg omelette with cheese would hit the mark, with cheese or ham added.

Egg and bacon too would be a filling breakfast for a keto plan.

However, baked eggs in avocado are also a popular choice. One half of an avocado with a baked egg contains around 260 calories, 20g of fat, 14g of protein and just 3g of carbs.

They look impressive and are low in carbs, so how exactly do you make these?

The recipe is simple. Take one avocado and cut it in half, scooping out some of the flesh.

Put the avocado on a baking tray or muffin tin face up.

Then crack the egg into the hole of the avocado and sprinkle over pepper, salt and cheese to taste.

Then bake the avocado for around 12 to 15 minutes in an oven preheated to 170 degrees celsius. The egg should no longer wobble when it is cooked through.

Keto recipes often call for oil, so which is the best oil on the keto diet?

It has been found that a type of fat in coconut oil can be very effective at triggering ketosis.

These are medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are rapidly absorbed.

However, there have been warnings against following the keto diet long term from various nutritionists.

One of these is Hebe Mills, an Associate Nutritionist, who told Express.co.uk: “The Ketogenic diet has been used since the 1920s as a medical therapy diet for epilepsy patients that do not respond to anti-epilepsy drugs (AEDs) to aid seizure control.

“The question is, does it work? Like many diets, an accompanying reduction in calorie intake may well lead to weight loss. That said, the diet is highly restrictive and shouldn’t be used long term. ⁣

⁣”If you’re looking to try the Keto diet, seek advice from a registered Dietician or Nutritionist before you start. Try to ensure that you are consuming a wide variety of the ‘allowed foods’ on the diet, otherwise you may be at risk of nutritional deficiency.”
