Deepika Padukone: 'I want xXx star to play me' says new Indian Badminton World Champion

Deepika Padukone continues to be the hottest property in Bollywood right now. After finding international fame in the xXx film franchise, the Bollywood star has a number of high profile projects lined up. And now India’s latest sporting hero has personally singled out the actress to play her in the upcoming story of her incredible win at the Badminton World Cup last week. Pusarla Venkata Sindhu became the first Indian women to bring home a gold medal when she defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the final on August 25. A movie has already been announced.

According to reports, Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has acquired the rights to make a biopic about Sindhu’s incredible achievements.

The sportswoman herself know exactly who she wants to see in the leading role. She told Hindustan Times: “I would definitely want Deepika Padukone to play the character. She had played the game and is a good actor too.”

It’s not just Deepika’s world-famous screen presence that could seal her the role, it is the fact that she herself was a high-level badminton player when she was younger and the daughter of a famous Indian world champion.

Deepika’s father Prakash Padukone is a former Indian badminton player who was ranked World No 1 in 1980.

Deepika trained to be a badminton player throughout her school years and played at a national level before she gave it up to pursue modelling in her late teens.

With a formidable background in the sport itself, on top of her status as Bollywood royalty, it is hard to imagine how anyone else could be considered for the role.

PV Sindhu has been very open about her hopes to see Deepika play her on the big screen but accepts that the final choice is not hers to make.

She added: “The makers would take the final decision.”

Deepika has been in London recently filming another sporing epic, the movie ’83, which tells the history of the first Indian team to win the cricket World Cup in 1983.

Is another gold medal heading her way soon?
