There’s a lot of rumours surrounding the release of the next major PlayStation console, the PS5.
Sony has shared details on how powerful it will be but has yet to reveal how much it will cost or when it will hit shelves.
Gamers are expecting it to arrive alongside Xbox’s Project Scarlett, which would mean a release in 2020.
And there are plenty of new projects being attached to the upcoming console, mostly from online sources.
This latest report will no doubt excite gamers but isn’t something that can be verified right now.
According to new reports, via Segment Next, the PS5 console will boast a sequel to the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale series.
Similar to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros franchise, it features famous PlayStation characters battling it out on set stages and levels.
The All-Stars series has never made it onto the PS4 and does not’ appear to be arriving anytime soon.
However, regardless of its current-gen no-show, a new instalment in the series is allegedly coming to PS5.
A pinch of salt has been taken when looking at this current rumour, which may turn out to be a hoax in the long-run.
However, if it doesn’t, it will reportedly launch in 2020 and would include a roster of characters, including Nathan Drake, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, and Spider-Man.
Interestingly, this new PS5 game would not remain a PlayStation exclusive but would launch on PC too.
This would happen in 2021 and would presumably be a timed exclusive. This may sound unlikely, but Sony has spoken about bringing more games to PC.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios Chairman, Shawn Layden, recently revealed that more multiplayer games could make it on the PC platform in the future.
With crossplay now becoming more commonplace, it would make sense for specific online games to launch on other platforms.
And this latest rumour suggests that this long-dormant PlayStation Classic could be one of the first.
Until we hear more on this rumour, we will have to regard it as yet another PS5 report.
Another recently surfaced, connecting Sony with a new PlayStation Now streaming device.
It stems from a patent filed by the company on August 29 at the United States patent office.
The patent said: “Systems and methods are provided for cloud gaming.
“One system includes a plurality of computing resources in one or more data centres.
“The plurality of computing resources is configured to execute instances of games for client devices that are remote from the one or more data centres.
“Each instance for an executable game is associated with a processor, a graphics processing unit (GPU), and memory.
“Memory is used for storing video frames generated for the executable game. The video frames are compressed for video game streaming to one or more client devices.
“The cloud gaming system implements at least one channel driver to facilitate I/O processing for the one or more client devices when executed by the computing resources of the one or more data centres.”
It’s unclear if this new gaming concept from Sony will ever hit shelves or will remain another unused PlayStation prototype.
