Xbox Scarlett release update: Console project news and surprise PS5 rumour

Big Xbox Scarlett release news could be shared later in 2019, but the same might not be coming for PlayStation fans waiting on a PS5 update.

As Microsoft confirmed earlier this year, a big Xbox event is being held in London in November.

This would be the perfect time for the tech giant to share further news on their Xbox One successor.

And while we may not find out the full details of the Xbox Scarlett, we may find out more about Project xCloud.

This will be the price-busting streaming option which looks set to expand AAA gaming to mobile phones.

The xCloud is going live in 2019 and following the launch of Project Scarlett console, will also cater next-gen games.

XO19 will be the perfect event to share more details on this, with Microsoft confirming on the official site:

“Join us for X019 in London, the annual global celebration of all things Xbox.

“The event will be filled with news, first looks and surprises, and Xbox FanFest, all live-streamed and starting on Inside Xbox.

“Thousands of fans will join in person, and millions of Xbox fans will join the celebration online. Coverage streams on Mixer from November 14-16, 2019, and tickets go on sale September 24.

“Whether you’ve been with us for years, months, weeks, or you’re still considering joining our global community, this is a moment where all of us come together.”

But could more release news be shared before XO19 with regards to the Xbox Scarlett launch?

The company is also hosting a Microsoft event in New York, a month before X019.

This has traditionally been when we hear more about hardware, and there is no reason to expect this won’t happen this year too.

However, much like years past, it doesn’t seem likely that we will hear more about Project Scarlett and Xbox.

Trusted Microsoft source, Brad Sams, emphasised the point recently, adding that he could only ever see something minor, like a new controller, being revealed.

But even this, via Thurrott, will probably not appear at the upcoming Microsoft Event in October.

The good news is that Xbox has started teasing XO19, telling fans that the Inside Xbox live stream will be “the biggest Inside Xbox show of the year”.

It follows some interesting new rumours regarding the Xbox Scarlett’s biggest competitor, Sony’s PS5.

According to the latest reports, Sony is planning their own reveal, albeit at a later date.

This would mean PlayStation gamers having to wait until 2020 before learning big news about the PS5 release date.

It would also contain several gaming reveals and would be held on February 2020.

This latest report needs to be taken with a big pinch of salt and could be proven wrong in the coming months.

The rumour connects Sony to a new State of Play Livestream later in 2019.

If this fails to materialise by the end of November, we can probably write off the rest of the rumour as well.

One game that was recently confirmed for next-gen hardware was Dying Light 2, which is expected to launch first on PS4 and Xbox One in 2020.
