ITV Lorraine: Christine Lampard red-faced as host announces departure from show

Christine, 40, has been standing in for ITV chat show host Lorraine Kelly, 59, throughout the summer.

The presenter revealed today’s edition of Lorraine would be her last for the foreseeable future, but she is going to be on Loose Women as a panelist this afternoon.

Lorraine will be returning to the fold on Monday to resume her duties, but to mark Christine’s last show, the presenter was given an unexpected surprise.

Joined by Showbiz reporter Dan Wotton, 36, Christine was left re-faced as her colleague revealed they were going to show her a montage of her best bits from this summer.

Dan announced the surprise by saying: “It’s crazy to think isn’t it, we have done summer now really,” to which Christine added; “Summer is officially over today.”

The Showbiz reporter continued: “It’s so sad and I view that by you unfortunately not being here on Monday.

“I just felt as it’s been such an amazing summer Christine, we have to celebrate and so we’ve got your best bits.”

Christine exclaimed: “No!” as she threw her head into her hands in embarrassment.

The series of clips then played, with Christine seen interviewing a whole array of guests during her stint this summer.

In the corner of the screen, a live feed of Christine’s reaction was seen, with the presenter nervously laughing at watching herself on screen.

When the montage came to an end, Dan commented: “How have you done so much in six weeks?”

Christine then assured viewers the chat show’s regular host would be back next week, stating: “Normal life resumes on Monday with Lorraine.”

At the end of today’s show, Christine joined fashion guru Mark Heyes, 42, outside the studio where her departure was marked once again.

Before the credits rolled, Christine said: “That’s all from me for the summer,” before reiterating when Lorraine would be making her return.

It was revealed earlier this month there would be some more famous faces joining the chat show team.

Announcing the news on the show, Strictly Come Dancing professional AJ Pritchard, 24, and his brother Curtis Pritchard, 23, revealed their upcoming role.

With Christine nowhere in sight Curtis took to the stage to tell viewers: “I’m Curtis Pritchard and I want to bring a bit of joy back into someone’s life by helping them find their happy feet.

“Do you know someone who’s had a tough time and deserves a dance lesson to put a smile back on their face? Please tell us why and share their story.”

Speaking about their role, AJ told Christine: “Lorraine and the team on the show have always been great to work with and I’m looking forward to working together long term.”

Curtis added: “It’s been a whirlwind since leaving Love Island and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to join the team at Lorraine.

“I know the positive effect dance can have on people’s lives and I can’t wait to get the chance to spread that message around with AJ.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 8.30am on ITV.
